What the app stores

The birthdays you add, such as a person’s name and date, are stored only on your device, in the app’s own storage (an App Group container that iOS keeps private to the app). There is no backend, no account, no sync, and no analytics. Nothing you enter is sent to us or to anyone else.

If you delete the app, this data is removed from your device with it.

Contacts, and the optional photo

Birthday Sleeps can show a photo next to a birthday by reading it from a contact you choose. This is optional. The first time you link a birthday to a contact, iOS asks for your permission to access Contacts, and you can decline. You can change this at any time in the Settings app.

When you link a birthday to a contact:

• Only the contact’s identifier, the reference iOS uses to find that contact, is saved on the birthday record on your device. The contact’s name, number, and other details are not copied.
• The photo is read live from Contacts each time it is shown. It is never copied, never written to disk, and never sent anywhere.

Everything else in the app works the same whether or not you grant access to Contacts. You can use Birthday Sleeps fully without it.

Our lawful basis

Under UK GDPR, our lawful basis for the optional contact-photo feature is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)): showing a familiar face next to a birthday, entirely on your device and at your request. We consider this a limited, expected use that has no negative effect on your privacy, since the photo never leaves your device.

The app does not process any special-category data, and the feature is optional and off until you choose to use it.

Sharing and third parties

We do not share your data, because we never receive it. Birthday Sleeps has no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party services that receive your information. Nothing leaves your device.

Keeping and removing your data

Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep it there. You can delete individual birthdays in the app, or remove everything at once by deleting the app. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side.

Your rights

UK data protection law gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, and erase it. As Birthday Sleeps stores your data only on your device and we keep no copy, you exercise these rights directly: view and edit birthdays in the app, and delete them, or the app, whenever you like.

Because the optional contact-photo feature relies on legitimate interest, you also have the right to object to it. You can do that at any time by turning the feature off, or by declining or withdrawing Contacts access in the Settings app. The app keeps working without it.

Children

Birthday Sleeps is not aimed at children and does not collect personal data about anyone. Any birthdays you add, including a child’s, stay on your device under your control.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. The current version always lives at this address.
